Cost Information

The cost of attending VPF8 will feature two components:



The conference runs from the morning of Monday 16th September to the afternoon of Friday 20th so delegates are advised to book accommodation for the nights from Sunday 15th to Friday 20th (5 nights).

Single- and double-bed accommodation is available at Jesus College. The price includes breakfast. Delegates may opt to stay elsewhere. Accommodation will also be available at the college on the nights of Saturday 14th and Friday 20th for those needing it.

Single (B&B, standard delegate) £50 per night

Single (B&B, early researcher*) £40 per night

Double (B&B) £80 per night (Friday 20th: not available on Saturday 14th)


Conference fee

The conference fee covers all sessions, visits, conference materials, and meals (lunch Monday - Friday, dinners on Monday-Thursday). The fee also covers an informal drinks gathering on the Sunday evening for those delegates who are already in Cambridge.

Early researcher

Thanks to Schlumberger there are a number of bursaries for early researchers, such as current research students and researchers within 5 years of completing their PhD (plus any career breaks). If you are interested in a bursary, please send a pdf with two paragraphs (maximum 250 words in total) outlining how the conference relates to your research and your financial need to .

All bursary applications will be handled in strict confidence.

Current research students must include the e-mail address of a supervisor to allow the organisers to confirm their status.

The outcome of bursary applications will be announced periodically after 1 March 2019. Applicants who have submitted abstracts will receive notice of the outcome of the bursary application at the same time as the confirmation of presentation.



Payments will be in £Stg and are handled through the University of Cambridge on-line payment facility. Bursary holders will be sent a code to allow them to register at the reduced fee.
